2009 VRC Derby Preview
Went hard in front with stablemate last start but battled on very strongly. Think that this track will suit him much better and if he is able to settle he looks great each way value especially with Oliver sitting in the saddle.
Is racing in great form at present and didn’t have much luck last week. Not quite sure if the form from that race will hold up but he is definitely an each way hope at odds.
Glen Boss got off this galloper after its stunning debut win at Sale and declared him a future Group 1 and maybe Derby winner. Although his prep started only mediocre his has really put it together the last two starts with dominant victories in the traditional lead up races making him the deserved Derby favourite. Also interesting to note that he is the half brother to last years winner Rebel Raider so the distance shouldn’t pose much of a worry.
Very good win on the bog track in the Spring Champion Stakes at his Aussie debut last start. Is only very lightly raced and can only imagine he will derive plenty of benefit from that run. Has been backed from $6.50 into $5.50 and looks one of the major chances in this.
No luck at all last week being trapped off the track the whole way. Has always been touted a Derby prospect but after last start the punters have jumped off and we expect the drift to continue.
Went far too hard in front last start and ultimately had to stop. Will race up on the speed here but unless he settles he is no hope of running out the trip.
Strong winner of the Geelong Classic so you know the distance shouldn’t pose a problem however the 2nd and 3rd horse out of that race appear to have much more scope for improvement and its hard to see this beating them home.
Kiwi galloper who was a huge effort in the Geelong Classic when caught wide and battled on strong at only his 3rd start in a race. By Zabeel and has plenty of upside about so don’t be surprised if this runs a huge race and becomes a very good stayer in the future.
Is rank outsider in the market and on form he cant possibly be in the finish here.
It has been widely documented the betting plunge on this horse since the early markets opened ($101 in) and he is a real live chance to pull it off for some nervous punters. He was clearly the run of the race in the Geelong Classic coming from last and hitting the line full of running which would suggest the 2500m is ideal for him. The form out of that race still looks slightly suspect but his stamina should more than compensate for that.
Is still a maiden and was beaten comprehensively in the Geelong Classic . Cant see him featuring here hence the $101 odds.
